Mount Sinai and St. Catherine
Climb Mount Sinai to its summit and explore one of the oldest monasteries in the world ...
Our English-speaking guide will collect you by bus from your hotel in the evening and you will travel to St Catherine’s. The journey will take about 3 hours. Upon arrival, accompanied by your guide you will start to climb Mount Sinai. The climb takes about 3 hours and you will need to wear good walking shoes and take a jacket - particularly in the winter as it can be quite chilly. The climb is long but relatively undemanding but may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm.
However, the climb is worth it…as once at the top, you will watch the sunrise over the mountains and experience one of the most spectacular views you have ever seen! This is said to be the place that Moses received the Ten Commandments and standing at the peak you can easily feel that you have been transported back thousands of years…
Once down the mountain you will enter the Monastery of St. Catherine. Many people do not know who she was: the Romans sent emissaries to purge Egypt of Christianity: in response, St. Catherine converted them to Christianity ... This Monastery also houses The Chapel of The Burning Bush and the bush itself is still in existence today!
Please note that the MONASTERY IS CLOSED on Fridays, Sundays and holidays.
At the end of your trip you will return to your hotel in Sharm el Sheikh by bus.
